my pleasure

temporal paradox 10 when all falls together no matter how slow. photos taken last weekend not so. a royal PITA. need to re shoot them again especially the white ones.considering buying a short telephoto lens to try and solve some of the problems including lens distortion on the edges.
setting up the tabletop tent for shooting is a chore, especially when you don't have the space.hauling all downstairs is an avoidable move if i can. seems it's unavoidable as the works are bigger than my regular small works.
the only good news is that the ones i took for a juried show here came out well. now i need to sit down fill the forms and write the blurb.

life's what happens in between plans

two weeks out of commission with a sprained ankle looking like a black pudding sausage.
no japanese class, no gym, no walking no weaving, no knitting. NADA.
missed the yama sakura in the park and the rest of the mimosas. however my momiji survived the root pruning and looks good.
used all that time to edit and upload the photos from last year's  ಠ ಠ trip to japan
also took time to clear the extra photos in flickr bcse i'm not going back there and non payers only get 1k free. now i need to check all those broken links and re upload the photos😑
interesting while the powers that be were busy dismantling flickr to make it better the world changed and now flickr is/feels obsolete.

here and there and everywhere

still weaving the blue ai warp with the kakishubu weft.already started making chains for the next warp, fine botany wool with a cashmere weft.
since i still haven't worked on the dyeing set up and i am really dying to dye this white warp is going to be painted and batch set. the set up is considerably easier and who am i kidding, i just want to go to the nearby brook for the rinsing (^∇^) oh the joy of living amongst nature.
know the colors ,have the warp color now i need to decide on a structure. can't be too complex as i will be working on the table loom because of it's width. lifting a networked twill by hand is beyond me right now.
on the blogger side i am slowly incorporating my blog roll after blogger effaced the widget.
quite a shock as many of my all time faves have disappeared. guess instant grat. prevails.
and gee i still have to work on my 24 gigas + the phone worth of photos from the trip. ಠ ಠ
i was a lot less reckless when i  shot analog.

woe is me

nº3
or in current parlance bummed out.

at least the weaving is going well albeit slow. number 3 is weaving along.
was all ready for the knitting machine hack, drivers downloaded, cable and connector, husband-san by my side holding my hand and providing unwanted extra information; the works.
turns out that the cable drivers might conflict with the loom usb converter. the solution would be to uninstall and stay loomless something that at least in this life it's not going to happen.
and to add insult to injury the program runs in win 7 and 8,but the laptop running the loom is xp service pack 3.no run no program. it means that either i get a dedicated laptop for the knitting machine or forget my idea of knitting images. in a household of 2 there are 2 desktops a netbook a laptop and 2 tablets. it is obscene. and i need to get another computer.SIGH  >:{
will start with craiglist for second hands and move from there.
moving on.
slowly migrating my photos from flickr to ipernity now that i have paid space. have not uploaded anything to flickr for a year and will remove all albums not linked to my blogs. there is such a free for all over there .
you can visit this, this and this  for some of the photos i took in japan. will upload some vids too during the week.

staying on topic

sari
making this textile related :) the wonderful red kanoko shibori sari worn by an indian lady  at the parc cervantes yesterday.
i did not miss this year's rose festival and despite the clouds it was a great spectacle. including the gorgerous indian ladies in their colorful saris who have become a tradition in their own.
i specialised in macro photography this year so pop over here to see the rose album. no photofun, everything's straight up except for some levels adjustment.
tomorrow the irises.

it's called cinemagraph
you can see example in this write up
and here's a tute to get you started
caveat you need photoshop cs5 extended version  (or any program w. video editing capabilities)
but i'm sure the creative mind will find workarounds that.

to cheat or not to cheat

not getting there

i'm not getting the color i want with aizome, except for the tie thread which is gorgeous. considering dyeing the little urchin with good ol' procion mx. will that be cheating?
and speaking of which   here's a great ps tutorial for  eliminating facial marks.did you know about the patch tool utility? i think my photo life will be easier from now on.

have a wonderful weekend!

quick! i need another life

itajime
at the risk of sounding like a professional dabber i'm doing some aizome, knitting with my newly refurbished perfectly functioning knitting machine, learning some more stitches with TAST  going on with my accordion books project and  really getting into ps actions. in other words turning nice (excuse me) photos into wow.

i should be creating my own actions by now, but i'd need another life because i have not even mentioned weaving which is my main job nor animation and fractals which are my hobbies.
instead i've found crafty and incredibly generous people who do the work. through rita  i also discovered skeletal mess and his textures.
i just  work with what they've created. the photos are mine and only mine.

on the other hand and creating the setting for an impeccable excuse, because i tend to be obsessive i work at whatever i'm interested in very intensely. this gives me a level of knowledge that is not shallow as in a dabber, but it's not as deep as one who has devoted all the time to just one pursuit and has become a specialist.
after all, i taught myself how to warp, with the priceless help of the late cay garrett and her book and lots and lots of yarn.
having achieved that gave me the  chutzpa  to pursue whatever i chose jumping right into it and studying until my elbows went literally sore.as i did with cooking.

arrogance? no, just ignorance. ♣ ♣

an implied promise

white silk sample promise

Battling with a book cover and trying to fit it to a book in the impossible quest. Doing things that Etsy doesn't like, like using dark photos.
The rebel in me came out in these photos, too"artsy" to get a clear idea of what they are about.
We all have similar sensibilities, travel to the same places therefore our photos tend to look alike. i'm trying to change directions photowise. Perhaps this blog will end up looking like this other one, who knows.
Anyhow the actual narrative of the photos is very straightforward. A woven silk sample,no scouring, machine zigzagged and dunked in the pomegranate soup that has been steeping for 2 weeks now.
No romance.

starry night-the idea

starry night

i was working on this and it was going to be submitted to a juried show. Stuff, lots of it, got in the way and i never got to send the application. This is a difficult one to photograph so perhaps that kept me busy in other fronts so that i didn't have to deal with the photos.
The piece is my take on trellis stitch.Worked with a very fine reflective thread it gives a lacy net. In between there are French knots worked with glow in the dark thread. It looks awesome in the dark! But try taking a photo :( The black velvet foundation does not facilitate things either.
After some unsuccessful attempts i just gave up. And i'm not a quitter.
This will be filed in the for-your-eyes-only category.

factual evidence

i am into rust! found this application in Flickr toys and created a mosaic from some of my photos.Photos were randomly chosen and it was surprising to see the underlying theme.Rust related either in topic or in color. And this is what i'm doing, procrastinating a big warp fix :(

rusted fabric

stitching rust

May i ask how many blogs are too many? i am now a happy participant of the Calendar Girls
exchange. Better follow the link or you may end up in a site full of sights:). Those women are not real believe me.
Next year promises to be exciting textile wise. And i love the girl club thing!

And about textiles, why does blue go so well with rust? Complementary, yes i know. But there's something more that escapes me. i was trying for another less predictable colorway and ended up with good ol' blue. The cotton fabric echoes last summer and all the rust going on on my textiles and photos.
Some soothing stitches while the soup bubbled-extremely cold over here lately- and thinking about how to add some zing to another rather boring colorway, this time in weaving.

The stitched piece ended up having a vintage 50's or perhaps 60's look and feel.T here's some light metallic copper stamping but as ever metallics do not render very well. Neither do interference colors. Will have to take photo lessons. For the time being, however, here's a lot of useful info for amateurs.
