changing technologies

trying to schedule some digi printing on fabric i found these two bottles of bubble jet set which i had bought in one of my trips to the states.you can tell how long ago this was as liquids were still allowed on board.
this was the, dare i say, only way back then to fix printer ink on fabric. it worked well, but sometimes there were issues with shelf life. one also had to be careful when ironing the fabric to freezer paper ( i have supplies of it to last my lifetime) as it would easily scorch or create air pockets.
one of the bottles is seven eighth full, the other remains unopened.

fast forward to now and golden digital ground  which have been around for a while now. easy, no iron, and one can tape the fabric to a paper and put it through the printer, hence avoiding the formation of air bubbles.

too bad technology hasn't advanced in adding hours to a day .

a slow one

 tying a warp with thin overtwisted wool to a tried and true warp. working slow because the overtwisted wool presents quite a few challenges. my idea was to start weaving this week, but there's a heat weave coming up. sigh.. :-}

treasure diggers

we were in madrid organizing  my late mil's stuff to start the renos at last! it was an intense month to say the least. thank goodness for long walks and wine. however, in two weeks i'm foreseeing other sort of headaches with the renos.

among  my mil's own possessions she also kept some of her mother's linens.
drawers and drawers full of old linens; i gave quite a few  because i cannot bear to throw them away and i kept many.

among the keepers; this beautiful hand embroidered linen damask tablecloth with tableware that goes with it. it is for a huge table and after it gets tuned i think i'll have some left over fabric for a skirt.

it needs a bit of a treatment, but as it had been kept a dry climate nothing sunlight can't remedy.

this is silk for sheets, hand embroidered monogram and the cut threads for the fagotting border, never done..

here is another linen damask tablecloth. How many huge tablecloths does one need? thinking about keeping the exquisite embroidery  and use it as the center panel for a tablecloth i have. the rest, meters and meters, for a dress. it is ironic that at a point in life that i should be downsizing i am collecting these.

there's going to be lots of sewing around here.
and dyeing as well.

i'll post a few more along this month for the enjoyment of stitcher friends.

feels good to be back .

on mixed blessings

those of you who've been with me for a while know of the long due renos in the madrid flat. i am happy to inform that they are about to commence, prior to  going through  stuff, discarding, selling and  packing. signing off for a while, but i may pop in to post photos.

the sampler belongs to my gracious neighbor's mother. she stitched it when she was 10 years old and it is incredibly charming. so is my neighbor who is going to take care of my plants.
be well and until soon.

rant alert

everyone believes anyone can teach, but explaining things well is an art and not everyone is up to par. ಠ ಠ  that is why teaching colleges exist.
never assume that the reader knows what you're talking about and can read between lines  because that creates information gaps. ಠ ಠ
there are numerous instructions on line about setting up a ribber. there is even an instruction manual that comes with the ribber. however there are a couple of instruction lines missing from all of them.  ಠ ಠ
how to couple both beds is covered, but how on earth  does a beginner install the brackets to couple the ribber to the main bed?
after countless hours on line watching and reading incomplete info i found this jewel that teaches how to install the &%** brackets. save it, you may need it in the future.

feels better after venting.
have a joyous first spring weekend.
and happy birthday to me (*^▽^*) (*^▽^*)

who was i kidding?

spending all day debbuging instead of fun and games? NAAH.
a ps brush resized and applied it black on white. then indexed the file to 2 colors 100% difussion.
sent it to the knitting machine et voila! thank you Alice Schlein! as a weaver i've done the homework and do not face the problems m kitters do.
i am experimenting with some optic brushed i downloaded, combining them in layers and then flattening and indexing the files. fun is going to happen, trust me.now i only have to gather courage set up the ribber and learn the basics.that means more colors!
(excuse the light dots in the image, its a knitted piece)
