this vacay has been productive, although many tries have ended on the floor or the trash. this one is a wip,so far no problems.famous last words.

on the gardening front lots have been done
albeit the heavy rains.
more this week!
but the solanum is not complaining. bought it a month ago barely 50 cms and now it's over a meter high and bushy.the japanese lilies on the background are also doing very well. 4 small rhizomes brought last year by my brother in law from their garden . we'll have flowers this year.
tomorrow back to school. haven't touched the japanese books (╯︵╰)

trapped in a novel

fortunately it's neither best seller reading nor pulp fiction.
the worst 10 cms of my weaving life slow and nerve wreacking, it is like doing pick up weave.i keep weaving just to see if it gets better because i don't quit easily..
this warp defies all common knowledge and pop beliefs. linseed dressing to strengthen the fibers and avoid fraying? haha. hairspray to tame hairiness? ditto.spraying water ? total derision.
i now understand why countermarch looms were created and the deeper the more efficient.
looks like this household is going to have some posh linen dish rags.
just waiting to see if i can have a word with mr.darcey. (-_-)

new love

studying kanjis i discovered the most beautiful one and fell in love.this is kasa (かさ); now tell me if it doesn't look like 4 people standing under a parasol at a table?that's what it is, the kanji for umbrella.

i had the urgency to do something with it so i started sketching
ideas in a brainstorming session of sorts.
first the writing practice which evidently needs a LOT  of polishing.
the super ego that sensei planted in on me years ago kept wincing at the results.but meanwhile i kept bouncing ideas.

here are some in rough.i have yet another project for after the holidays.

of rain

"It rained for four years, eleven months and two days. There were periods of drizzle during which everyone put on his full dress and a convalescent look to celebrate the clearing, but the people soon grew accustomed to interpret the pauses as a sign of redoubled rain."
 One hundred Years of Solitude
Gabriel Garcia Marquez

not quite but almost.two straight weeks.we needed it, but give me a break!I need to learn how to function in a wet environment.coming from the dry med where activity almost stops when it rains it is a learning experience.luckily husband-san insisted to the point of obnoxiousness that i buy a pair of gore-tex and all kinds of techs rain booties.with a blessed zipper on the side so they qualify as slip ons.
hunter boots are cool, but very impractical. unless you're kate moss and are making a statement.(eye roll)

humbled

my admiration for all of you who work with linen.i have worked with very fine threads all my weaving life, but they were mostly silk or wool and a bit of cotton as well.
but linen is a different animal; it has a different life and behavior.
so here i am learning about how to handle linen, even in a much thicker grist than what i am used to work with it presents peculiarities.one of them the airborne lint that causes me to cough and gives me  a runny nose, japanese cold masks are de rigeur .
the autodenter works like a good baby! it doesn't cut the threads like it sometimes does to very fine silk.my gain!
after a very long bank holiday-almost a week-with no walks, aqua gym, japanese class and ladies who coffee i was able to really troop it. dying to start weaving!and i already have the cakes baked, the xmas dinner made and frozen and the decos up.just need to sit down and make the xmas animated card.woohoo!
