staring back

i bet you know the feeling.a work staring back at you from the design wall. for months, if you are lucky, if not for years. needs an elusive something to call it done.
and one day in a flash you see it pick it up and finish it.and get on with life.
this is the story of this one.

just adding the stitching below the image and more stitching creating texture on the right and the bottom  and it all came together.
because my work has moved in other directions  this now feels like archaeology.

speaking of archaeology; having a great time reading  between the woods and  the water by patrick leigh fermor  who was  mentor to bruce chatwin. if you are interested in history and languages this will be a pleasure read.

framed

spending time with tyvek and making frames using different techniques. one is stitched and  distressed with a hot iron then painted; the other just distressed and then painted.
these two are ok and they work relatively well with the project. but they don't quite cut it.
it is difficult to have a frame that complements the work and yet sings.
maybe i have to pay a visit to el prado  ;)

more yarn and a project

these beauties are from avril too.the dark one is cotton dyed with kakishibu.
the skeins are paper yarns. have to start thinking about how to use them.
meanwhile back at the knitting machine a project is crystallizing.i am thinking about frames now.
but not your regular frame, mind you. will show bits and pieces because i want to enter in a juried show.

nothing like having yarn to burn

  odaiba                                                    itsukushima

       rock garden                                                     rocks

went to the chinese bazaar and bought two 100 gram skeins  of perle cotton size 8 in white and black.
having limitless yarn frees you . you can experiment without being afraid of wasting yarn.
and of course inspiration finds you working. one idea develops into another and another and what if......
some images knit more successfully than others, others are more visually appealing, others read better. the things you learn.
i've learned that for 3 colors in one row you need a ribber.i have one waiting ,but i need to get acquainted with the machine first.three colors will most likely happen in the winter.  looking after my pressure. just saying.

i weave too

astonished at the quickness of my surface mail package from japan.
i was told around 3 months so i figured by the end of august with a lot of luck, but it got here on the 27th of this month .roughly 2 months.

my beautiful wool stainless steel yarns from avril. i was told they are discontinuing this line from that manufacturer and when it's gone it's gone, therefore i stacked up as much as my budget could handle. apparently they are looking into other manufacturers.
the yarn is thinner than frog hair. most of the
cones are 200 grams so i have yarn until the end of times.
i need to buy a fine knitting bar to be able to use the yarns for knitting too. but if i just bought a new laptop to run the machine i can handle that.

also fell for this remnant of merino
200 grams of a gorgeous aubergine maroon
check out the grist!

here is the proof of the pudding. i am a weaver who not only stashes yarn, but also uses it.

nÂș 4 of the series in all its imperfect glory.
the weekend was spent re threading to solve that.
don't know if i'll be cranking during the week because it's already hot.
my walking routine has already moved to 8:30 a.m.
