completed and ready for a hack

finished. i like the different textures and the print on the background. i think it's effective.let's see where this idea takes me.
btw the bottom and top plain weave borders are for the hems.
the   cables are finally here and the drivers are already downloaded. now i need some peace and quiet to read the hack instructions and proceed. i am thinking of knitting the same images i  am using for the weaves. just to be coherent.

working my way

printed warp. note ms gorgeous double shuttle on the left   ^ _^

the outcome.this is the first one so it's more of a test run than an actual work, just to start turning gears.

another printing session.

we're getting more consistent here. from now on we'll start seriously working. as serious as i can get ^_^
highly  recommended: the old capital by kawabata yasunari. kyoto and weaving in a book. what else?

debugging and developing

all tied up. now comes the debugging part.
have been  doing computer work too.

developing and studying pegplans.working on different varriations

also developing the image

and the masters for printing using the print gocco, such great simple technology.we are still crying over its demise. but as the japanese live and work one century ahead of the rest when the products start catching up and becoming mainstream they are already moving on. think of the brother home knitting machines.

anyhow a brief summary of the process
make a photocopy of your image,  place it on the pad.place the master with the blue filter-to avoid scorching-in front of the master which is a heat sensitive mesh

place two light bulbs on the lamp housing head and  place it on the machine.

push down and the bulbs will flash producing light and heat and thus transferring the carbon of the photocopy and printing the image on the mesh

the image transferred to the mesh. it can be printed on to any medium; paper, textiles, whatever you like. the inks are oily and very tacky, but i have printed successfully using thickened dyes and textile paints.

now, don't tell me the demise of print gocco was not a tragedy.

while in matsusaka

matusaka  was a delightful discovery for me. not only is it famous for its excellent beef . although  hardly known to foreigners matsusaka beef  rivals  kobe's in tasty delectability .
it was also  the town where ozu  grew up and you can visit a museum which stands on the spot where his house was.

during the edo period it was also an important textile center specialising in cotton weaving. and cotton and aizome always go together.
unfortunately i could not see any aizome being done but the visit to the  small matsusaka momen  museum was delightful.  the museum has a small shop that sells yardage, clothes and household items  there are  various looms  looms  and classes are offered.

but what really interested me was their warping systems.
i was lucky to be recognized as a weaver and therefore allowed to take photos.

the warp already rolled up on the beam  which is put on top of the hanging beater. from there the loom is threaded.

back view with the lease sticks. the beam is a
misnomer because it is a flat board that will
eventually rest on the place marked on the photo above

the warping station : interesting that it is laid flat ans that it has two rows of pegs. had never seen that before. have you?

instead of leashing metal rods are attached to the apron . they also serve for saving warp after cutting a project.  i won't get wordy explaining so click on the smaller image to get a better look.

beauty shot. stripped cloth : matsusaka's textile landmark.
