never mind the background and concentrate on the covered one and the empty cone next to it.

using a cone mesh to keep the kinks in the crepe wool at bay.the yarn goes up and through the tension loop in the cone winder, down and through the empty cone and up again to the warping board.

kinks still occur, but are much more manageable than kinks kinking as the yarn unwinds from the cone!! 

it's a good thing that  i love inventing rigs and giving tools other functions.

of simple things

tying on to the old  warp,taking advantage of no threading mistakes. keeping things simple.

this will be another crepe, but this time the weft is going to be a very fine crepe wool 18 turns per inch. i am going to live dangerously and try two or three warp stripes with said wool. then piece dye in black.

usually here leaves fry before having the chance to turn, but this year oh boy!

those bitter cold weeks in november have given us a fall we had yet to see. and of course here at sea level when it does, it arrives as late as december when the countryside's already bare.
paraphrasing the little prince: one needs to endure the caterpillars in order to enjoy butterflies.

cake on the way

finally after much walking around found currants. this year it's going to be a raisin orgy  along with the regimental  walnuts, almonds and dried apricots.besides currants i am adding craisins, sultanas and white grape raisins for an acid kick.
plus some very,very nice stone ground flour from an old  french mill.
this is what happens when you have a marathon watch of downton abbey. don't want to disappoint mrs. patmore ( ' _º )

taming the beast

not quite. mid way during the second two color border there was a loud ploooofff and to my consternation, the knitting fell to the floor. don't know whether it is due to my christmas have- to- get- stuff- ready- mind set or it is actual-factual, but i find two color knitting on the new machine peskier that on the other. or maybe the punch card one has become an old friend and i know how it interacts with me.

after picking up that piece of broken dreams from the floor i changed my mind ans knitted plain old stockinette in less that what it takes to blow one's nose. so here they are being blocked into shape and will be sewn to the lap blanket.it's going to be a funky one for sure.
