half mark

midpoint

no internet connection yesterday and so it was work, work, work. arrived at a little past half mark, 500 threads.
i treadle the threading and with such mega fine yarns i have to thread from the back because i cannot see them from the front.it is a bit clumsy to have the warp already wound in the back, but the good news is that there's less chance for picking the wrong order ergo less crossed threads!and by the same reason, it's very nice to have all threads wound and under control. having that mass of angel hair when warping from the front is stress inducing, although one gets used to it.

shrug

easing into the sewing. started with one of those long rectangular things i knitted with linen and turned into a shrug.it had been dyed in the last ai vat of the summer and was resting, waiting and hoping for the color to age and develop.i'm pleased with the outcome.
now if it only would stop raining. we're on the second straight week of non stop rain!

inching my way

reeding

centimetering, to be more precise.learning new movements and trying to get rid of old.
what i've found so far is that it takes less movements to thread from the back. correct me please if i'm wrong. also broken threads stay behind and are easier to repair. no floating film can gavotte.

let's see if i can also start with the sews.

good grades, bad grades and passing grades

pattern grading

what happens when your favorite pattern is off by two sizes and losing weight seems not  an option?
you make it larger of course! and not by adding at the seams, as every  sewster knows from experience.

although not difficult,it is quite a science enlarging  patterns without rendering them shapeless. it's called size grading.
and now without further ado links that will get you there:

春 haru

haru

still very cold-3ºC this morning- but there are evident signs that a change is coming.
my momiji is waking up slowly.
beaming today, gods from hades providing.
as ms.cally booker says: fine threads are sent to make us stronger, yes?
also working on this: combined weaving and surface design.
the dark
interesting how yardage cannot express certain things.

do real weavers warp back to front?

warping- front of loom

took the plunge and am warping back to front.feel on tenter hooks because this yarn is  extremely fine.
i have only one cross on the back with the lease  sticks.realized i should have made 2 crosess .

warping back of loom

also discovered  via woodyarn.blogspot.com where to place the raddle high up .so those black knobs at the back were for the raddle!DUH!
i also found  many  tips for the magic dobby to make weaving and threading easier.
she has also customised her loom to take an ondule reed and documented the customisation.

moving on, the strathmore online workshops are about to start, free inscription.
i took a mixed mediaworkshop with tracey bautista and enjoyed it very much.almost anything that can be done on paper can be done on fabric. right velma?

back to fiddling with yarns
