chugging along

weave-along

not too much to say except that this is weaving at a nice pace. the stripe is giving me some concern as  the yarn is much thicker that the rest. should have -note the spelling- sleyed it 1-0-1 instead to avoid abrasion.but i really wanted that burlapy look in silk.
my pal rubi is setting up a knit-along , she already sent the pattern so here i go.she also wrote a very rational stash justification post. as if textilians needed justification!

dyeing and what iffing

4 bunches

lovely people my green grocers.dyed this organzine with 1 bunch of carrot tops i had  and gave me a blah endive yellowy greeny. went to them and asked if they had some carrot tops to give away. they produced 3 bunches! and three bunches gave this deep greeny yellow.the organzine was mordanted in 2 teaspoons alum dissolved in 5 liters of water.
i had already skeined and mordanted 2 skeins that i wanted to dye with a modifier to make 2 stripes in the future warp.but in the bliss of not having any bs occupying my mind i started whatiffing.

result:
whatiftwo skeins wound as for shibori, but euca leaves
on,between, under and all the possible prepositions.
looking for a mottled color  effect more than leaf
imprints. i'm confident these will be the handsomest stripes ever :)

did i mention i got my life back?

crepe

weaving has never been so pleasurable and stress free.think all the stress i was capable of has already been spent. hallelujah.

yardage of crepe for a skirt. no designing here it's an oelsner crepe because i wanted an r&r no brainer.  silk doupioni dyed in shades of ai and kakishibu.

weftthe weft is tram silk dyed in ai.
one of the darkest shades i've got so far.

the skirt is going to be in 4 panels with pleats still to be devised.

the albatross around my neck no mo'

 And a good south wind sprung up behind;
The Albatross did follow,
And every day, for food or play,
Came to the mariner's hollo! *

the work

after 6  months agonizing this albatross is off my neck and i can get on with life.whomever said that you'll get rid of insecurities the more into your work you are is a LIAR.

Ah! well a-day! what evil looks
Had I from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.*

those of you who visit here remember this  and the often mentioned plan A. so this is it .

some details:

left hand  detail                          not quite the middle

 detail

it was all about working against  clock to complete the entry for lodz and self doubts.i cannot thank enough my friends for their support when i was turning into jello.

i felt this invite was somewhat like those honorary oscars for lifetime achievement therefore i wanted to include a compedium of what my work is; i'm a weaver a dyer and i also stitch although i'm not a stitcher per se.

the weavings are small 20cms linen and silk weaves using lampas structure, brocading stamping and surface design. they are stitched to commercial linen that was painted using earth and ai pigments  then hand and machine  stitched. the concept behind is landscape within landscape within landscape from the interior to the external.

and those interested please note that the italics come from coleridge's rhyme of the ancient mariner
a favorite of mine recently revisited. but i digress so that will make another post.
