same although totally different

 last days
virginia creeper

read velma's post this morning. yesterday  there was a buzz in the artfire forums regarding the newest practice. it seems that unscrupulous producers, especially from china nick people's photos, take them to sweat shops and get the items reproduced. no wonder design has gotten better in chinese shops!

item two is shoddier and cruddier. say ms.a sees an item in an online shop. she nicks the photo and goes to an artisan and asks for a repro or maybe more than one at a price cut.

it's all about money, folks.

how to know if someone's fooling around with your photos http://www.tineye.com/ . not very much, but at least you know who's using your photos and where copies come from.

visual pun anyone?

on dyeing crafts and fiber

dyeing is a separate craft.traditionally goods were brought to dyers to be dyed and then returned to be either woven in case of yarns or to be worked on them.
a different scenario for us here and now we have become jack of all trades, weavers, dyers, embellishers, stitchers. not sure if on the way we're either missing something or losing something.
what has prompt these reflections is here.
they quietly do just one thing. and the artistry level is amazing.

pumping the red

lemon float
lemon float

well, if murasaki shifts towards the reds if lemon is added, let's try it with chestnut water.it gives a red kick, but warning! do not expect the above as it  is poetic license.

some silk dyed in chestnut water.
i feel terribly macrobiotic because i'm using seasonal products(^ _^)
i'm preparing the colors for a silk warp and it's going to be for a summer top. there's plenty of time, but as you know fashion works at least 6 months ahead of the calendar (-_o)

on to other  things. thanks to all the wonderful folks who replied to  last week's plea on jiggery.

and last but not least the warp problems have been solved and i'm happily weaving again. 96 picks=5cms, roughly 2 inches. i'll be doing a lot of weaving!
