on loom breaks

front cover   back cover

i work on the nettle diaries. remember this gifted yarn? well, i finished weaving the pages before the holidays and  this is the first  book.

 pages1-2   pages 3-4

the material is very pliable albeit the stiffness of the yarn and takes colors and all kinds of abuses very well.the stitching is somewhat difficult due to the toughness of the yarn and the openness of the weave.
i want to let the weave with all the small  color nuances speak for itself hence all those empty spaces.
when finished they will  tell a tale of a trip into friendship.

  1. A beauty. I assume the selvedges are the head & tail of the pages. How did you finish the foredges? Inquiring minds want to know.

  3. As I think I said on Flickr...these are astonishingly amazing. Makes me want to weave with metal...even though it 'looks' like I already may be with the fabric on my book!!! :)

the book looks wonderful, love the colours and the stitching. I am fascinated with baste fibre, nettles were used here by the native people. It was retted in tidal pools and spun on a supported spindle, don't think there is anyone able to do it now.

  5. Le tue magiche mani sanno tirare fuori il meglio da ogni cosa. Mai avrei pensato che il filato di ortica ti avrebbe ispirato così tanto.

I love this. The colours are so meditative. Is that the phrase I want? The colours are calming, conducive to meditation...
