the process worked

the weld extract not so much. stretching and brushing the dye after mordant printing. the only caveat compared with immersion dyeing is that the cloth needs to be steamed. i don't mind it bcse i thing one gets much clearer backgrounds.

fabric after steaming. dunged in oat bran to remove the gum and clear the background, then  washed. the yellow is pretty but faint.

>

another example of faint weld yellow. ran out of alum and everything's on halt.
waiting for the suppliers to come back from vacation to buy more alum.
meanwhile climate refugees keep visiting. last week not even us up north were safe.one day of 40º. thought i was going to die.(mind the spelling)
the fires have tinted the sky and everything is covered in  ash dust. doing a rain dance bcse all's fried if not burned.

sweet

an old screen i had, masked with clear contact paper.the thrill it was to find clear contact paper 15 years ago!icut the mask never to be removed from the screeen and so it has been. it has been my somewhat standard print OMG since 2010! so the contact paper find was in that year.

have been mulling using it with thickened natural dye pastes.as a starter i am using thickened bengara. was somewhat hesitant bcse being a pigment didn't know if it was ginded finely enough.
no problem. the year of understanding bengara.
the rest of summer 024 is going to be fun with dick and jane.

bye bye june, the month of no sunlight.

following party discipline

party as in fun and games and not political   ( ̄ω ̄ ) this is a remnant from the deconstructed silkscreen printing era procion dyes galore. need the silkscreen so im going to try using the remnant paint instead of washing the screen. the ever frugal crafter. however, first need to finish the business i have with looms and yarns. whatever the outcome it will work. then the real deal will beging: printing using thickened natural dyes.ecxited about that, planning on carying it on into the new year.
november's gone!

will printing happen any time soon?

the screens are ready, actually have been ready for a week now.but the studio is so hot i don't have what it takes to get in and start printing

it's so hot and humid that the gaffer tape is buckling and unsticking. meanwhile i'm sticking to the air as i move

practicing christian virtues

flower outlined2
of patience and self control. that meaning the least use of foul language and suppressing a strong killing instinct. the last two days have been spent
- note the use of the passive because the time is more important than the who ;-) - undoing rows and rows of machine knitting.
and in order to keep my sanity i  shifted between undoing and working on this baby, hand scribbling an outline for the flowers in blue. the original idea was to make the line thicker, but when confronted with the whole piece i decided it would have been too dominant, so i chose a fine scribble instead. i think it's finished and can be put down  to rest. what do you think?

on the life in general department i have been dealing with lost credit cards cancellations, re issuing and all the dysfunctions caused by such PITA.
and the weather has turned crappy, but cooler. can't have it all.

i'll leave you for the weekend with this good read via textile arts resource guide. just in case you ever find yourself in a rut and start questioning your work.

have a good weekend and enjoy the sun.

the book of friendship and good times

back coverfront cover
Front and back covers of the book of friendship and good times. There's something of all the friends that one way or another contributed in  shaping last year.

pages3-4pages1-2
The fabric was gifted, the printing  resulted from  an answer to a question  of mine posed in a dyeing list. The cover textures come from the constant inspiration of another friend. The stitching was inspired by two other friends.
back2da book
The foil was another gift, along with some good  laughs.i just put it all together, the printing is my own japanophilia and the poor stitching and crummy photos  are mine too. The good times, ah the good times...

Henceforth, learning the ropes of the new Blogger editor.

discombobulated

Last year around my birthday i was doing deco-printing.
http://amovablefeast.blogspot.com/2008/03/screen-printing-fun.htm
The fabric came out nicely and i overprinted a left over square with a print gocco master, my beloved "purinto gocco"that i had hauled all the way from Japan. i was testing fluorescent pigments and wanted to see their printability.
fluo

Results: nice; lovely pink fluo motifs but somewhat discombobulated (lovely puzzling word, there is no combobulate).
Or as husband- san, the resident critic, said "it's very abstract (snicker, snicker)":)
The fabric needed a unifying element desperately and so it was put down to rest.Yesterday the weather was hot and dry and i brought out a thermofax screen and tried some more over printing with a there's not much to lose attitude. Coincidentally the thermofax and print gocco technology are the same, so it is quite surprising that Riso wants to discontinue the gocco .

Results:
the linear elements combobulate(ha!ha!) the fabric.thermofax
i'm looking forward to more combobulation :)
BTW. i just became a fan of the gocco page on Facebook.

screen printing fun

blue

During the recent limping phase it was somewhat difficult to walk, but stand up i could. And so i did.Had lots of fun printing this cotton duck fabric that will hopefully be turned into a tote bag.
Deconstructed screen printing aka breakdown printing is very liberating. There's really no way you can wreck a piece of fabric. One way or another it gets salvaged.

fluo

This was a leftover piece which i stamped using a Print Gocco master and some thickened pigment. i like how pigments behave so i foresee more experimenting with them.

Sorry for the colors as they came out a bit washed out and no PS could spunk them. It's the light, as it has been cloudy lately.
