on cowardice

been avoiding turning on the k machine and keeping myself busy with other projects albeit the want to knit. the reason is that the capacitors blew again and i changed them doing the whole soldering bit once more. having done it once and having seen the tech do it i feel more confident than the first time. but it was too hot to deal with frustration and i procrastinated till cooler times. now the time has come, but i haven't gathered the courage.

i want/need to change the turning on system; i would like to use the computer for that bypassing the circuit board and capacitors and using an arduino in between.this hack will do away with capacitors forever.no more blowing.
i think it can be done , but i need either a tech or a set of good instructions.
there are some projects burning brain cells and i want to start working asap.
meanwhile the quest for a tech begins.again.
information appreciated.

will

sensei's fabrics. understated elegance.it takes a lot of will to weave one tan, the traditional bolt of kimono fabric measuring 36cms by 11mts.long.

i am progressing slowly and i'm not weaving a tan, just a mere 3-4 mts.
upon examining i quit being a purist; it's ok for the industry to use ll kinds of starches and  warp dressings, why it shouldn't be ok for me?ditched the romance of the hand made and i am spraying the warp to my life's content with hairspray.
ergo the warp is behaving and i am weaving better.

what i've learned

converting a sleeveless into a sleeve entails a lot more that raising necklines and adding sleeves.
you sometimes end up with a gaping back neck and that extra fabric has to be taken out by adding a dart. but then the back gets tight and you have to slash it to create extra fabric for ease without affecting the armscye .
so in the end this came out a little tight, but it's going to act as an incentive for losing  kilos.
the buttons are problematic.the ones i found were the right size and shiny texture as i wanted, but i'm afraid they're too heavy .im in a wait & see mode about them.

between boring and cool

the difference is more work.worthwhile though.
this is medium to light felt, no facings . but the raw edge looks kind of blah so i am edge stitching the neck and bottom.it's going to take me longer than planned and the stitching needs to be even.concentration, a masking tape guide and hitting the pedal lightly. it is going to look good after all.

on altering

same pattern, this time it's going to be a sleeved top. the pattern comes with sleeves, good thing because i do not feel like dealing with drafting sleeves and adjusting armscyes at the moment. still have a half concocted pattern to finish.
the only hack is to raise the neckline and draft the collar which is going to be stand up -scroll to the bottom to see the drafting instructions.

the muslin. as the rest has been tried i just needed to check the neckline. think it still needs a bit of work.

the fabric.medium weight wool felt. i don't know what's with me and this color.it's like a new me.
