chug-chug-along

so far from the inner landscape series this one is my fave. but i've just woven 3. by the end of the warp who knows. jute is a nice material, but fuzzes like crazy. not even   my beeswax cake tames it so weaving is slow. so is  brocading. thinking where to lay the yarns and where not to weave.this is a lampas threading, but the weaving is invented :). thoroughly enjoyable!

in between jobs

there's a lot of talk over here about mini jobs aka sub employment in plain language. but i'm going to spare ya'll the rant.

i am in between projects now and what i'm doing is no mini job, it's a  big task trying to straighten out that yarn mess. again. but as i previously said nothing beats that for mindlessness. and i actually enjoy the challenge and the sense of accomplishment i get from it. yes, i'm that weird.
this skein though is a piece of cake; it's thicker than what i am usually confronted with and very slinky. i just hang it and watch it slink down as i wind. no fuzziness clinging hopelessly to one another .
maybe i should list this as a skill in my resume. opinions ? :)

she who dares

graduating from long rectangular things into something with more shape but not quite.
this is blandina's linen dyed in tannin that became a top? a vest?

learning by doing.the increases always show, especially with a yarn as fine as this. so why not take advantage and use them as design elements? all those pretty eyelets!

something that might make the purists-or the more concientious makers- out there cringe; i stitched the piece all around the edges to prevent the infamous stockinette stitch curl in. used the stretch stitch on my elna and i am very pleased with the outcome.

hurry summer,  hurry.

baby doo-doo

yep, that's the color in the pot  from the lichens. the dyed wool skein wasn't any  better
plain and b-o-r-i-n-g beige after the effort.

luckily there were some jars with brazilwwod steeping in alcohol from last summer!

on to overdyeing.
the color is much more satisfying, a muted claret.i used sodium bicarb as an alkali modifier because it is milder than washing soda. it seemed to work as color modifier.

turning a page. i've been moving some of my photos to ipernity. just this morning i discovered that in order to share your photos you have to be a paying member   (o|o)  ($_$) (ò_ô)
oh well, there's still picasa and photobucket!
if what really annoys  you from flickr is the layout and you can cope with the present slowness a good solution:
download and install destroy flickr. at least you can customise the way you view not only your photos, but also your contacts and faves. and you do not have to camp  out in front of the computer waiting for those huge photos to  show up.

yet one more page turn. how do you like the new look of this blog? did you notice?

yet another change of heart

 photo 514ffdbf-abe1-431a-b071-e75abdc2280b_zpsc1ee9204.jpg

yesterday i finished mordanting the linen odd shaped shrug. it was an alum tannin -alum mordant to be then dyed with the vintage lichen brew. the resulting beige is very close to natural unbleached linen  and i liked the result so much that it is staying as is. a glimpse of  before  whiter than white here .
the above; blocking with my other than standard blocking board. using styrofoam that came in the box with the new computer until i get downtown to buy a more adequate piece of styrofoam.

dark times

trying to combat dark thoughts. saw a documentary on speed trading, something that the economic powers that be do not want to talk about. life imitating science fiction. it dawned on me that we live inside the matrix , but with no phone to get an exit. and no control of our lives.there's just one sole power ,and this is economic, ruling us.

very little do to except weave.working on interior landscapes series. hemp and linen with some occasional copper wire.
printed warp.
