questioning sectional warping

30/2 cotton yarn, three chains . it took me less than 30 mins to warp the table loom.given the many things than can go wonky warping sectional i am begining to seriously question the method. at least in my practice. i've observed that thejapanese almos never warp sectionally. their warps are mainly extremely thin silk kilometers long; for example the standard kimono length is 4 meters give/take.
maybe sectional is a european thing because of the use of wool.this is me speculating, however, ever wondered the lack of dye recipes for wool in japan?yep, no sheep. they were brought in by the spanish and portuguese.

on the other hanf the warp from hell is already reeded.mind you i still had to correct the last two bouts sleyed. the debugging is going to be epic.
i wanted to be in the big girl's league so i converted to sectional without much analysing.maybe it's time to go back to regular before my ego gets resented.

the beat goes on

the cotton warp threading, overshot from the strickler's book with a twist.the top 4 shafts will give me an independent layer to bring up at will and do things with it. as mentioned this is a time warp paradox, it even also works as a pun.  ( ¨¨ ω¨¨ )
the wefts are from the dyed stash, the warp will be painted.feel enthusiastic abou this particular project.
i've decided not to participate in shows where i have to create work for their concept.i want to work on my own concepts, weird or commonplace.if the work suits their call ,great. especially in these times that works are primarily judged on the artist statement and the ability to sell the work to the jury. life's too short, literally. reminds me of google updating their terms and functioning every couple of months.

two down one more to go

gorgeous 30/2 cotton warps for the upcoming overshot project.the one dealing with temporal paradox, yeah that one.talk about concept before design.trying to design around the yarns that i have already dyed to speed up things.i have a lot of minutiae coming up so dyeing is out of the equation.this is straightforward good ol' warping and not the sectional bs.
hoping to get this rolling so that i can work during the xmas break.

not claiming victory

what can go wrong will.few warps to go ,but who knows what's in store.have had to re thread whole sections with the corresponding new heddles bound to create nuisance when weaving. such is life.
after so many years weaving still messing big time. a cure of humility.
have accepted reality and it will be finished when it is. ¯\ ( ツ ) /¯

temporal paradox and quantum physics

now that i got your attention with such a nerdy title let me elaborate in textile terms.i've been revisiting this past series my one and only take on overshot.it is considered the the quintesential hand weave structure as it is difficult to replicate industrially.i've never been really drawn to it because it has a marked old fashioned look which is too much for my liking. having said this, many moons ago i tried it  with the agenda of bringing it into  what i considered more up to date aesthetics.( even with gloriously evident errors)
we're dealing here with time travel sui generis. ( ¨¨ ω¨¨ )

for this project, the yarns precede the design .been going through the stash and once i find the one then the design will follow. come to think of it this is the way i work;the adage i let the yarns speak to me.
and they do, sometimes they even cuss.
  ( ̄ω ̄ )
this on the backburner while the silk is slowly being reeded, a never ending chore.

a compendium of japanese literature, such is life

we left here.then there was more warp counting beaming and threading. in between doubts as to forget the scarf and make art.

we are here now, close to saying finally. however,
the center threads left their heddles and i have to  find the sequence. easy if i had left the lease sticks in place (╯︵╰,)
these weeks of no show have been taxing.

perfecting the process

it's been a long ride one thing and another, but there's confidence gained.seriously considering buying spools and doing away with warp chains. although now the tops and bottoms are marked with contrasting yarns the bouts still rebel and turn .⋋__⋌   let's see how many offrenders there are when i start threading.

now on to deciding ,this one

or this one.
both parallel rosepaths of sorts.
geez  equinox past and i wasn't aware.
maybe because we're missing that nip in the air.
i am compensating bingeing on northern exposure. when a script is good it doesn't age at all ,30 some years old, people and still resonates in the viewer.

slow life

so incredibly thin 20 threads x cm + 2 cms sections= 40 threads x section. shigh. and it's a 32 section warp.sigh. slow and boring. i am against working with music  so as not to fall asleep on the job, playing some j pop to keep me awake. female singers usually sound like meowing cats. come to think of it women in japan sound like meowing cats ね!

found a you tube vid which has not only
facilitated the task of sectional warping,
but also has build my confidence. im a self taught warper and practically weaver.

a no brainer hack to prevent ronin threads keeping them confined in their place.
i use a warping board bcse i dont have the floor space for a spool rack, but presently am seriously considering ways to hang a spool rack on the wall.
this would shorten the warping times dramatically. thinking my brain dry especially since finding plastic spools on amazon. too much plastic in this post. ಠ ಠ

and yet one more hack. the two yarn cones on the floor get threaded though the plastic mesh then through the warping palette and on to the board.
if you-ve developed a system please do chime in.

meanwhile on a far far away galaxy

warping a two thread cross  aka an exercise in anxiety.especially with superfine silk.
the sectional is 2 cms so i need 40 threads and then my math gets muddled.i've done some terribly dumb counts and ended wih ridiculouly narrow scarves.
this number is going to be a layer of indigo dyed silk that came out teal ( beats me as of why). the color itself is pretty though. the second layer starts with a terracotta madder dyed silk and progresses to the benibana colors.
the weft, also silk, will be lavender and lime green.lavenders are murasaki, logwood, lime green my beloved  carrot tops color. when i want to feel sucessful and accomplished i dye with carrot tops.

clearing work and a diversion

been exploring rosepath paralell networks with great joy in the outcome. i don't think people are aware of how much the weaving program creators have advanced the craft.there's so much one can do with pencil eraser and paper before losing it. with the added bonus that you can get an idea of the interplay of colors wiout sampling. my eternal gratitude to all of them.
this might be the final choice(so far) ( ・ω・)

i have also making lakes and or evaporating
the liquid of remaining dye baths.one needs to
honor those plants and insects that worked so hard
to make the dyes.
on the right  remains of lac on tyvek for a future project.

the summer of the res

re read, revisit ,re study re try and everything else in between. this is no laughing matter. after so many years of using my to go weaving program i have discocered many other functions to work with paralell threadings and networks.
i even went back to alice schlein's seminal network book and re read it discovering many ideas that i had just glossed over. i am re studying it in depth this time.
as with dyeing all these years i had gotten results but the depth of it had escaped me. i am at a curious point now  revisiting what i thought i knew .

on the other hand not related but in a way it is i have started looking up words in the dictionary directly from japanese. at first i'd look up a word in english to get the japanese equivalent. now after countless dramas i hear an unfamiliar word, stop the streaming and look it up. it's a great reinforcement and after hearing it a couple of times it's already set in the  hardisk of my  mind.

i am planning my fall weaves with all those madder and benibana dyed silks. the anticipation is building up. novel ways of using my weaving program promise summer fun.

the more you work

the better the work becomes. and more ideas occur.
more words, a bigger panel.

iterations of the concept, things possible.

more beautiful seeds. as my japanese friend says simple is better.

working

whoa. pomegranate and iron works really well with shifu.from now on it's all going to be beauty shots bcse i think the contrast of smooth weave and the seeds-where two strips join-looks pretty much awesome.

some woven words .the irregularities in the written
text create pleasant rhythms.

the beauty of a well tensed warp

and not much else to add. weaving is going to go on wheels. on another note for the third time i've started on line coding lessons. let's see if i accomplish something this time.
and yet one more change from our friends at google.they're laying off workers but are pestering users with  analytic changes in blogs and pages which btw are now called properties. newspeak anyone? i suggest they relax with a cup of chamomile tea. please.

the warp

starting the work on the warp.12/2 cotton at 8 threads x cm, around 30 cms wide.
i am going to balance loom work and kami ito work to see if i can speed up a bit. and to keep feeding my poor concetration   ( ¨¨ ω¨¨ )
this is mercerised cotton with two skeins in a ghastly bluish tint to make them look whiter.still washing to see if i can get rid of some of it. reminds me of people who treat their knitting machines to make them whiter. ¯\ ( ツ ) /¯  as if beige were a sin.

the rabbit🐇🐇 managed to climb out

of its hole.🐇🐇🐇

xmas here is excruciatingly long, it starts mid november and by epiphany you're either exhausted or bored.almost two months of carols well wishing and food.
i set my goal to finish this project and after beaming twice! i could weave without offendingly slack yarns.
all in all it came out nice and im happy with it.silk bourette dyed with logwood and iron as modifier.warp is a thick cottony like silk from the stash.printed with madder, brazilwood and lac.the natural color of the silk pulls it all together.
the srtucture is a networked broken twill.

beware of having too much fun

it can have consequences. all that fun painting and printing and fumbling with the warp brought unruly slacking threads .  hence weaving is slow and painful.
however whe finally completed it's going to look good, said she. in the life in general dept.
all the season's stuff is done but i am feeling slugish.this year no xmas cake due to the cost of power.it's been substituted by coconut tiramisu.perhaps this will become the tradition.
