a useful exercise

from very little collapse to maximum.the wide white is doupioni silk in a very slubby texture.

weaves are plain and han
damask light and tight beat.

then merino wool weaves:han damask and plain weave light beat.
the collapse came in the  wet finish so it's  fulling

after these:
wool steel and crepe wool light beat,
plain weave. the weave close to
the magenta yarn is all
wool stainless by itself, with a firmer beat

48/2 merino and crepe wool, very light beat. plain weave and han damask.the warp kinks out.

end game: wool crepe same as warp

han damask light and firm beat.

 plain weave, very light beat.

the frugal weaver strikes again

left over crepe wool that could not possibly be cut and thrown away. since the tough part was already done which was the warping, it was only a matter of re tightening and re sleying. note the stylish printed cloth on the table serving as a threading eye-saving number   ^_^

it came out narrow, no choice. here's han damask
with a light beat and some more tightly beaten using the same wool crepe as weft.
other wefts will follow and i am hoping this albeit narrow, will be a useful sample.

the make believer

too much fun to be weaving when you can mock ribs!and hang hems! i bet it won't be as fun when i eventually graduate into using the ribber. for now cheap thrills with my new best friend   3:)
moving on.
i am reading brothers karamazov and have come up with a theory .
i think dostoevsky was bi-polar. all the characters ,in this book at least, suffer from uncontrollable mood swings; they go from total despair to absolute euphoria without any control of their feelings. the only one with a well adjusted personality is father zosima.
i didn't notice that the first time i read it and it's a pretty exhausting re read.

uh oh

not a good idea to sley 2 ends of crepe yarn together. back to re re sleying this time 1 wool 1 crepe wool. spend considerable time over the weekend doing it but, finally weaving again on sunday.
all this work to use up that extra warp and do some samples .

in business: 3 layer explorations; just the top one works.
this will keep me all week. i also have to go downtown to get the connecting cable to have the knitting machine talk to the computer. or vice versa.

have also been knitting more samples this time  full fashion increase. geezz it seems it's all about fashion these days.

re-sleying for double weave

EGGADD sample! the frugal weaver in action again. there was about 1.5 mts worth of warp left on the other loom which was not going to end in the landfill. let's see what double weave  prowess i can accomplish  ^_^

many boring samples and some gratification

but oh how much i've learned! however.....
some diversion needed . i processed an old knitted sample, aged it with rust, foiled it, painted it and added beads which are close to impossible to get on a quick photo shoot.
backed it with some remaining silk fabric ( see this)

 et voila! some gratification.
i need to start making things with all those knitted samples before they take over the little space i have left. not that this will make them evaporate mind you, just change their state :(

blocking is a science

lifted stitches-diagonal

left my last set of samples wet  blocking and after a week and even though they are stockinette they do not curl back.
the above is a lifted stitch practice from the susan guagliumi book and as ever diagonals attract me.

lace4
this is card nº20  of my brother  890 . it's a lace
pattern done with the lace carriage and before i started getting creative   changing the pattern
especially after finding this post.

lace3

lace card nº 16 ??, could be adapted for a more contemporary look.

card 19                                                  card 18

these too could profit from an update.

on another note weaving smoothly; it's a good cloth this one :)
sewing wise i have already chosen the pattern for the striped cotton and a sleeveless blouse with a peter pan collar for this . the original plan was a skirt, but there's not enough fabric.

yesterday was  a holiday here.
on the spooky side, we still have the internet connection which means someone forgot to do their job.
