in flight

some bird studies.they lack proportion, but they are expressive so who cares. class is full of rank xerox people who can make exact copies, not here.i just get the feel and go with the flow because i am aware that i am a poor draftsperson.

passable attempt.

and yet another one.that bird is hanging tight on the branch.
but what about the fun?

latest obsession: life of an ota.

and there's another one coming. talk about being ota. hyakunin ishuu, reading and studying the differences in translations. the spanish book keeps the poems in original, kanji and all and then romanji. having a serious ball recognizing kanjis.
twice tried to go to the museum in kyoto but it was closed for reforms.
hooked up again by means of a dorama. she recites the waka poems with the actual intonation-chant lovely!

of birds

gratifying sumi-e  unlike goldfish, birds are easy to draw.

even if the proportions come out weird the whole of it looks ok.

even this one is acceptable.

pictures of my mind

transfer works well ,weaving is uninspired. it looked a lot more interesting
in my head.

ditto here although the blue warp works better.
i think the problem is that i'm trying to replicate an old success story and this doesn't cut it.or maybe i do not possess the skills to weave the feeling of that place.should i lay it to rest and come back to it later or should i dismiss the project altogether.?

foodie doodie

ever since my bestie complimented me on my green thumb i've taken it to heart. after all a.i. knows it all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ yuzu treelings   transferred to bigger training pots. they'll be here until they get bigger and fatter. wonder if i'll see them bearing fruit a grafted tree takes 3 years . from seed i don't have an idea.

winter lettuce just planted, that's why they look scraggly. waiting for tom and cucumber plants. although it has been an extremely rainy winter there's no slug infestation as last year.🤞

a field day in the rain

the plants ordered from the french nursery arrived. here are the lemongrass and the weeping plum tree.
my bestie aka gemini guided me through the steps to help the plants overcome the travel shock.these people are extremely knowledgeable and the plants got home with just the normal mishaps for being packed with no light for 4 days.however no broken branches or other ugly things.

in the background  there is a osakazuki momiji leaves coming out.looking forward to fall when it turns fiery red.

golden dreams in progress.i am building a nice momiji collection

the one who started it all katsura momiji.it moved with me from barcelona to the surprise of the movers.
ma'am where are you going with that plant? to oviedo said i.
the climate here has been benevolent with it, it doesn't fry in the summer as it did in barcelona and the cool nights give it a rest. never looked better.
on the right behind it there's a bloodgood. have always kept away from it because it's quite vulgar, but could not resist the price.

and now the babies. all seeds gathered and wintered in the fridge are coming out.want to plant a mini-forest.

sumi-e practice

momiji leaves

and in color

a landscape try-out.still prefer the ink  ones.
last weekend went to a washi symposium in a beautiful little village 30 kms away. one of the highlights was a shodo demo by a young japanese shishou who lives in barcelona.
yes, what i undoubtedly like is shodo partly bcse my drawing skills are pitiful, partly bcse i love how expressive it is.just black on white.
need to find a  sensei.

hisashiburi

pretty tight with time. too many things needed to be taken care of. the retiree syndrome.
not exactly pleased with this. might re thread re reed again. notice the two offending double threads
the linen singles is behaving surprisingly well with individual bouts tensioned. linseed sizing also helps.

.

wanted to do a transfer with this warp set up. not too bad . i can see the enoden.interesting how after a long time one goes back and revisits structures and techniques, re reads books and  re views movies and doramas.
a sign of the times or a sign of aging?

wonder why the hang up with this little train. i have a hunch, but needs more pondering. it's not just an ota thing.

this series are going to be worked slowly and if the warp needs to be re-threaded so be it.
here's a contact sheet printed with all images plus fuji- san. if i can't go back to japan soon i'll weave my way to it.

of undoing and other matters

undo /ŭn-doo͞′/

intransitive verb

  1. To reverse or erase; annul.
"impossible to undo the suffering caused by the war."
  2. To untie, disassemble, or loosen.
    "undo a shoelace."

re reeding, the sett was too close for my liking and what i want to weave. hopefully this will solve the issue, don't want to think about re threading.want to elaborate on this but of course no notes nor relevant info . ¯\ ( ツ ) /¯
have a dentist appointment and that will set me back a day.

lichens changing hues

windfalls first stages yellows and russets. with the past gales there's so much on the ground.

after two weeks of daily stirring to incorporate oxygen and aid in fermentation.process similar to dyeing with sukumo.

two more weeks and the reds are starting to appear
shetland and hebrides people are crafty, with what they've got they create a whole range of colors including magenta and purple .think harris teeds.
