i was told by one of the wise girls on insta that traditional japanese ink, inksticks, would hold the moisture and steam treatment without smearing. it was worth the go as you can see.
making the ink using an inkstick bought at the
venerable store in nara .it is quite a medidative process a as an act of respect to the materials and the labor involved ,one should make just the amount of ink needed.
compare the quality of actual ink and a pentel brush pen.that nice black becomes part of the kozo paper, not just sits on top of it. of course it doesn't run, bleed or gets muddled.
