stitching away winter

embroidery from haiti

palm trees and sky

Not me. unfortunately . This stitched wall hanging was bought in Port au Prince, Haiti time ago. It includes varieties of chain stitch, stem stitch,up and down buttonhole, satin stitch, seed stitch and a stitch whose name i don't know,
parrots and pond
but it looks like crossed florentine in needlepoint, worked very close together. Note the delightful parrots and the pink sky. The tropics, sigh!

  2. The detail of the palm leaves and the different colors used on the tropic scenery and little birds is incredible. They used different reds and browns on the palm trunks, and I see at least 8 different colors on the parrot. What detail!

  3. Beautiful Neki! Don't mourn for the tropics today - here we are in the subtropics at a quite warm and humid 34 degrees C! I was born in the tropics and find this a tad warm.
