the weirds

it took the whole summer to get to this size and now it's slowly, extremely slowly, maturing.the plant shoot up and i had to behead it or else it reached the roof.
this has been a weird year for plants, all the conifers, mine and the city's are half brown and losing foliage. awful year for tomatoes, a slug epidemic, too hot a summer for lettuce. kukes were also  acting up, few this year.

last of the last, crossing fingers so that the two small ones develop.
already ordered the yuzu this year.there haven't been too many problems in the levant. except last week's deluge.

hung up with the renshuu app for learning japanese. i have a virtual garden there and the more i study the more coins i can get. these then are traded at the garden store for plants, decorations and assorted stuff for the garden.talk about motivational.

walking the line

a walking threader is a great thing, but it needs patience to master. even after adequate performance i don't rush it bcse one ends up making mistakes like skipping dents or forgetting to advance hence two threads in the same dent. i find the use more iffy with silk threads.being so fine they tend to get caught in the mechanism and either cut or fray.still haven't become proficient with silk.
i timed it for the first time in my life  ¯\ ( ツ ) /¯  taking it slow and being extra cautious it took me 5 minutes to sley 12 threads.

ready to start weaving. this week is full
of little bs hopefully i'll scrap some time. also hoping to get gorgeous collapse with the wool/stainless weft yarn. the warp is sleyed at 8 ends xcm. so there's room for collapse to happen. famous last words.

same yarn  different color,
silk woven at 20 ends x cm  in a basket weave it shows some collapse

colors changing hues

i love blending colors so that there are no defined stripes. here i started with a navy blue wool  then added a moss green to it 1x1 continued with the moss green solo, then added a lighter moss green then light moss green solo and repeated symmetrically.some sort of gradient warping. another fun gradient is for a 2 colored warp keeping one layer constant and changing the colors on the other layer.with 2 well picked weft colors and the warp can sing.
this one will use just one warp color as color is secondary to the collapse effect i want.

moving on.i am delighted with the sumi-e class i am taking.the prof is great and the people taking it are friendly and engaged. will also serve to lose some weight as the walk to the civic center is all uphill
( ≧Д≦)    also delighted to be able to use all those  brushes and inks i brought from japan.
