thickened gallnuts

and the magic touch. i need time to explore tannins and iron, but right now
i am just working against the clock to finish at least half of this project.
visitors are arriving tomorrow and staying for a month. i'm going to be in and out hopping around  no time for blogposts.
i'll be posting photos of the travels on insta. on my  battle against spammers and hackers i made it private. sorry you'll need  to send me a request.

under the influence

i was told by one of the wise girls on insta that traditional japanese ink, inksticks, would hold the moisture and  steam treatment without smearing. it was worth the go as you can see.

making the ink using an inkstick bought at the
venerable store in nara .it is quite a medidative process a as an act of respect to  the materials and the labor involved  ,one should make just the amount of ink needed.

compare the quality of actual ink and a pentel brush pen.that nice black becomes part of the kozo paper, not just sits on top of it. of course it doesn't run, bleed or gets muddled.
