eventful weekend

it wasn't the polar vortex, but it snowed, was cold and lots of soup happened.
it was also the last opera of the season.carmen. didn't like the lead role's voice, but thought the chorus and micaela were superb,so was don jose.it was a very dark carmen the director concentrating too much on the spanish cliches and forsaking her caracter, which to me is the key to the whole opera.

it also meant yarn discoveries, said she who is destashing. beautiful soft merino sock yarn from argentina. very well priced and with an additional 30% discount. more gloves, or maybe another knitted collar for a dress.
flesh is weak.

of stubbornness and thriftiness

yup, still at it but with a difference.or two.this loom was hacked to include an under-slung beater to improve weaving conditions.however the front tie rod was loo long to pass the sides of the beater and had to be cut.then the warp was also cut because there was no point in keeping the aggravation going.
sized it with agar agar which was the handiest easiest thing i had .just boil water sprinkle a teaspoon and wait till is gels.

it has strengthened the yarns considerably
and i am assuming breakage  will be
 minimized.also assuming some of
the slack in some yarns will disappear
and the overall tension will improve.
let's see how much i can weave without
despairing. all because i hate to cut this
beautiful misbehaving linen, sigh.
btw i am sold on agar-agar.
