more ai dregs

on fabric. getting the hang of it and cultivating bravery for thickening it and stamping on the right side.
it works so far it has even been submerged in water with little loss of color. however, wash and wear is beyond my scope of reseach. although it still needs work this piece is gradually coming together.

on the other hand this one is done.
after many years of being an
unrepenting UFO.  ¯\ ( ツ ) /¯
talk about time travel! this is
from my digital printing background
period. digitally printed dyed  silk with a silk shibori scrap, silk velvet and raw silk embellished with french knots
notice the mention of time travel again. current obsession.

bringing things to the front

from the mythical backburner. these assorted silk scrap ensemble has been shuffled around for many moons.all of a sudden a what if moment happened ; print puff paste all over the right panel?  although subtle it brings it all together as it echoes the texture of the left panel.
now the question is whether to do some stitching or not.the left side is more than less defined.
this is fun stuff no serious intentions, kind of occupational therapy until next dyeing batch.mulling over the weaving design for those dyed skeins.

o hisashiburi ne!

it's been days of fierce heat so i've been laying extremely low. since the studio is on the top floor it became a nice little oven. first two weeks in august were overly torrid with lots of wild fires.i could just move my hands because any other movement was too much effort.northern spain is not used to 40ºtempsand nights of 24º
once the heat subsided work started. will be posting along the week the last two weeks work. finally my computer was set up and now i have my programs and my stuff handy again. hallelujah!

3 days in june

with  temperatures of 32º+ heat index.and this is northern spain folks. the rest was frying, no exaggeration. at least here nights were relatively cool. not as usual but the heat was not usual either.could not think any physical activity other than what's pictured. even that was exhausting.

so we are all suffering something that negationists negate, victims of a collective hallucination drenched in hallucinated sweat.

remains of the day

in a way i am grateful for those aggravating  3 classes that i took in the infamous workshop bcse they started my brain moving.
right now i am in ganbaru💪💪mode trying out possibilities and looking into transforming wovens into new- cant find a descriptive word. HELP .

right now  i find interesting  off register printing. need to work more in depth  with it. i think there's too much  background space isn't it? maybe smaller clouds with  subtler prints.

also using the wovens combining printing, stamping and stitching.
this one needs more work, or maybe less??
have a feeling it's not walking the success road.
nevertheless it's been fun.

state of grace

sat down with a small rectangle of woven shifu from three years ago and it all came together swiftly.
effortless enjoyable composing, piecing and stitching.such a relief after all these absurd times we are living.
shifu, printed organza, store bought silk remnant, woven linen with stitching.

the glooms

geezzz.looking for some work to be gifted to a friend i found some  of the work i made in barcelona.
this one even  weaves the words gloom invades the scene, paraphrasing shakespeare.

>

i noticed that most of the work done in the last10 years was pretty gloomy. granted there was some color here and there, but the most compelling ones were dark. and in all media.
there are many more but i dont want to depress readers.
you judge.

it was hot

last week. too hot to move. it was 28º too hot.i feel like a princess complaining while the rest of spain and europe were frying in the 40s. but i've already paid my dues in endless mediterranean summers.
i sat and stitched some knitted samples trying to move as little as i could.

i used beads a resource i had forgotten i had!
they combined well with monofilament and mohair.
some knitted wire samples i had aged by giving them a patina treatment and painted linen sample as substrate made another surface design piece.

acclimatize

been getting up at 8:30 to be able to do the morning walk and pump some iron in the park before the heat kicks in.mind you the hottest it gets is 25C but i'm already acclimatized to the lower temps up north. 25 seems like a heat wave   🙄.

sitting and stitching, trying to use the ungodly
numbers of knitted samples.
this one even has incorporated knitted wire samples. it needs to be straightened a bit at the top to make it less airborne.
it's a work in progress coping with the heat and feeling awful complaining because this is not really heat.

some weaving done but not worth mentioning.

sitting means stitching

because we all know about the devil and idle hands don't we?

look closely and you can see some"holes"

created pulled thread eyelets to reinforce the reversed boro idea.

want to explore this concept further.

stitch and heal

progress.i do have time provided i stop glancing at the tablet while i  sort of watch tv. going through pinterest is a time sucker. what i am doing now is stitching during that hour + before going to bed. pretty incredible how that time multiplies.
i am following a dental treatment that takes me to the clinic once a week for a month and the stitching is soothing therapy.trying to deflect achy discomfort by engaging my brain and hands.

win-win because this one is full of little stitches and according to my standards it is  a big piece of handwoven cloth. so far i am barely scratching the surface.

bengara

xtra large photo to show my pleasure.already started stitching on this after two coats of benibana while still on the loom.this one is going to take time because i want to do a lot of stitching on it.the linen substrate is pretty wonderful texture wise.what i like is the play between the woven fabric and the stitching on it.

the rust spot is  woven, the white is stitching highlighting a white spot with some bengara threads in the warp.

there's going to be lots of blue happening here.
and maybe some rust color to highlight parts of the bengara areas.fun!

the treatment

came back from the walk relatively shot, sat down for a long break and took this lampas sample that had been subject to various treatments.
i dislike having samples floating around with no use;at least this could be put up on a wall. the image was digitally manipulated and printed on silk organza .before attaching it to the background i gave it a unifying wash of acrylic paint.
final treatment (?) is stitching. it was woven incorporating gold thread so i used it again to stitch around the right hand  side of the image so as to integrate it to the background.maybe i should add more blue fly stitches at the bottom.
the colors are much more vivid in rel life.

stitching a cold away

lying low with a cold of a cold. nothing better than some stitching. my friend blandina gave me a skein of nettle yarn some time ago and i wove it.had this small piece that ended up as you can see with some printing and stitching.just comfort work akin to comfort food.

trying to consciously avoid doing circles
which have become another visual cliche.
remember swirls?
maybe this looks constrained, but hey, no circles.
