public toilets like you've never seen

the tokyo toilet tour.errm  there's an official one  which takes you to see the toilets of the tokyo  toilet project. all designed by top architects, the project creates a balance between form and functiuon.
armed with the map published by the official page and google maps it's an independent doable if you like me has a strong dislike for organized tours.

it's also a great opportunity to discover areas of the city since they are mostly grouped around shinjuku and shibuya wards, but in neighborhoods tourist are most likely to ignore.

this one and it's partner in a nearby park are in yoyogi area.here i found myself in a sureal situation; a park full of japanese kids speaking english among themselves. later i found out that an international school is nearby.
the partner toilet designed in cool colors gained world fame as it was featured in the movie perfect days.

i think this was my favorite.as you come out of the ebisu station, a floating white cube made with louvers.

the graphics in all of them are excellent.

this is from the project page. at night it's spectacular

this was also spectacular.

i couldn't visit all of them due to time constraints, but it was a  chance to see  good architecture unlike  the buildings, at  close up mode.

combatting frustration

the knitted top is parked because it was giving me a hard time. doing composition gymnastics to aid frustration. i am challenging myself to use this composition in just values of black and white. working daily  intuitively, not worring much, with all possible variants or until i get bored.

i am going to work with this composition and all its possible variations  as an exercise to get back into ..whatever. every day for half an hour and let's see how it goes. will be posting the outcome

also found these notes that are worth exploring. maybe printed fabric? all those samples could be put to work.

doodling

 doodling for the next project.
first stage using handmade washi and some squares from the infamous linen warp.
some threads will be added on stage two.meanwhile warping the table loom with hair thin silk.
 easy peasy compared to linen.

inching is easier than centimitering

remember i was salvaging warps so there was no chance of warping two threads together.i am here now slowly and patiently commencing to juggle two kinds of yarns; silk that catches like crazy and hemp that has no stretch. the hemp warp will be weighted and not beamed.life is short and summer is coming soon.
meanwhile design wise:

chutzpah, verve and other ve ending words

2possibles

been working on designs for  the yellow warp although i still have around 1 mt of the ai kakishibu warp to go . taking it slowly because of tension problems. those slubs! i have no problems talking about my  weaving issues, yet it seems i'm the only one who experiences them. am i the only village fool?- this is a rethorical question, no need to answer ^_^
so far these two seem to have the numbers.i want a statement skirt for a change. been too subdued for too long. it's a twill for a nice drape, the pattern however won't be that bold, at 24 ends x cm. it shrinks considerably.
the yellows are the cherry bark dyed silk organzine.
i hear spring is knocking at my doors.

design principle#45

convento de los dominicos

 Three levels of knowing

Simplicity is the world view of a child or uninformed adult, fully engaged
in his own experience and happily unaware of what lies beneath the surface of immediate reality.

Complexity characterizes the ordinary adult view.It is characterized by an awareness of complex systems  in nature and society, but an inability to discern clarifying patterns and connections.

Informed Simplicity is an enlightened view of reality. It is founded upon an ability to  to discern or create clarifying patterns within complex mixtures.
