zen and the art of print on print

as ever i start zen.not plain pristine zen but almost.

then things happen on the way and bye-bye zen here comes baroque.let's see if on this trip i learn to shed all the baroqueness. on my first trip i shed music and now i work in silence.

(i hate the html formatting of blogger it never works a i intend and  their wysiwyg is useless)  ( ≧Д≦)      it used to work well until one of the updates.they now want you to hire a web master if you're not savvy enough to deal w. the obscurities.they are really pushing  ad words and monetization.
end of rant.

pride and prejudice

it's been a long spring, too many visits, some complicated guests, too intense. enjded taichi last wednesday mentally tired.now getting ready for summer, but still have to clear some domestic bs and set the doctors appointmnts.
want to have mental time to study; studt japanese, study weaving, study dyeing.
have been struggling all through the month of may trying to knit something simple such as a tabard.
no luck, have spent more time unraveling than knitting. even after spending big bucks on a knitting program. wearables are not in my league, my league is made of curved balls ಠ ಠ
however this has becomme a matter of pride; i will persevere until i get it even if it takes me the rest of my life.said she.

addendum: google keeps telling me that u analitycs are gone and i need to switch to the new gizmo. i did but i cannot find how to verify if the switch has been done. not that i care that much bcse i am not monetizing the blog. something they are encouraging. their next move will be to wiupe out all the non moneticed blogs aka free. no ticket,no laundry.

halfway done homework

those of you on blogger, have you done your homework so that google records your  blog hits and analytics?
i am halfway and since the last day was july1st i dont know if i still exist in googleland. the change is tremendously difficult starting with the obscure terminology. i don't care too much since i don't and don't plan to monetize this blog plus  ever since they suspended universalid i cannot commentin blogs from other platforms. guess same happens to people who read this.
nice move to force bloggers to accept ads. __
on a positive note happy tanabata🎋🎋🎋 the seventh day of the seventh month.

here and there and everywhere

still weaving the blue ai warp with the kakishubu weft.already started making chains for the next warp, fine botany wool with a cashmere weft.
since i still haven't worked on the dyeing set up and i am really dying to dye this white warp is going to be painted and batch set. the set up is considerably easier and who am i kidding, i just want to go to the nearby brook for the rinsing (^∇^) oh the joy of living amongst nature.
know the colors ,have the warp color now i need to decide on a structure. can't be too complex as i will be working on the table loom because of it's width. lifting a networked twill by hand is beyond me right now.
on the blogger side i am slowly incorporating my blog roll after blogger effaced the widget.
quite a shock as many of my all time faves have disappeared. guess instant grat. prevails.
and gee i still have to work on my 24 gigas + the phone worth of photos from the trip. ಠ ಠ
i was a lot less reckless when i  shot analog.

the great blogging debate

Unexpected abstraction

lately there has been some questioning about blogging, whether it's dead or not, whether it still holds a purpose given the myriad of other on line communities.

i am somewhat old fashioned in this respect; to me blogging is an essential part of my doing. although sometimes there's little text, for me, it is a more in depth recording than any other on line platform. it also functions as a knowledge transfer platform as there are lots of tutorials about every thinkable topic.
it is a place where one can ramble and distill thoughts. and if someone is kind enough to leave a comment it can also mean a way of conversing.i have made great friends through blogs and some i have even met in person.
plus there's something about a first, let's say love, that is difficult to replace.

instagram for me is mainly about photos and photo experiments; quick glances from my walks and open to the viewer's interpretation. hardly ever i add text.

facebook is in my opinion repetitious and superficial. from all the posts in my feed maybe 1/4 is interesting and or informative.it's mostly about cats, disasters that can happen to you or your pets, pseudo inspiring schmaltzy thoughts and gods of every kind. it is time consumed passively and i am slowly limiting my presence there.

pinterest poses copyright ethic questions, it is also rather passive, but at least it is inspiring. mind you i am just half guilty; i don't pin, but i follow some boards because they are full of information. like a graphic google at your fingertips unlike present google which is more interested in selling ads and promoting places. have you noticed that one has to go to the 7th-8th page to really start finding information.

perhaps all of the above describes me as a non millenial, which definitely i am not. but then again that's not my niche and i don't think they'd be interested in something so time consuming and slow as weaving.

the hand that cuts the warp

off the loom

in action. two dowels inserted to save an error free threading for a future project that is already cooking slowly in the backburner. this warp has already been washed and will soon hit the mordanting pot.now on to the dobby and the silk warp.

received a message from aracne this morning. there's a fellow weaver who raises cashmere goats and sells this awesome yarn. she is going through a difficult time and needs to sell some yarn. here's the link. please consider helping out.

moving on.
seems that there are problems at yahoo. lots of compromised mail addresses, inability to access groups, flickr etc.
my mail was suffering so if you receive a post from me with weird links please ignore and do not by the love of cyberia click on the link.
i've already re set and  changed passwords.
 yet more page turning.
someone commented that when trying to access my blog got a blank blog instead.
simple explanation: my blog is a movable feast with its glorious typo. the correct moveable one was already take and i really, really wanted that title. google is dumb and you can fool it (^_^) well, most of the times.

i knew it

fakir's bed

it was just a matter of time i was going to get hit. a few weeks ago while checking my analytics i saw a some visits from turkey and nigeria. first it happened in my e mail server. the infamous  GOOD MORNING MY FRIEND post and the newer version DEAR BELOVED IN GOD. no problem, just trash it and on with life, have been trashing lots of them .but this morning i got a comment here at the blog duplicating aracne's  comment from a few days ago. when i clicked on it i was taken to a weird page in turkey all written in turkish of course. i left the page as fast as i could, but now i'm paranoid. maybe i got something there because i'm experiencing difficulties commenting on blogs.

on the textile life department:
  • the loom controlled shibori is coming along nicely. no photos because it's all white boringness.
  • still winding on the silk top, a few inches per hour to avoid havoc, broken threads raw nerves etc.that silk is inflicting punishment.
  • the silk skein being solar dyed  in brazilwood  i salso coming along nicely.
  • and.... preparing an ai vat. my face is blue  from holding my breath.hope it turns as blue.
the image illustrating the post was generated at clolurlovers. still haven't found a use for it, but we'll get there.

did i say woohoo?

apologies for the photo as it has not a thing to do with the post. it does have something to do with the spirit of this blog because it's netting albeit construction.come to think of this it does have to do with the post and i am digressing.

update on noruway no mori.: loved the movie, much more than the book and this is the first time this happens to the lit major here. the book is a series of ellipses and i got lost more than often. being  visual the cinematographic language resolves ellipses well.

the second piece of news is pretty wonderful to all of those who have a blogger blog. go here  to get the nuts and bolts.
but the fun and games is for everyone. if you're a reader here is something for you. you can choose how to read and what look feel you want from the blogs you follow.
in a nutshell append the word  view to the end of the url and there you have it! you are taken to a dashboard with the title of the blog. to the right there's a blue button with a dropdown box. there you'll find the available looks.choose and pick.
caveat: provided the blog owner has enabled it in the settings.

i have so check it out and have fun :D

loss of innocence

sakura
seems that i can't close my wishful thinking mode because i want to believe all this weirdness will have to end sooner or later. yes we're happy when our blogs'  traffic grows. and it's comforting for the ego.
but that also means spam and weired followers. people who do not really care for textiles or what you do or say. i do not understand what they gain following. perhaps an in to see if your blog can get hijacked and used as a splog.as there is money involved i can see the lack of ethics and basic decency.
i suggest you delve deeper into your google analitycs.i was shocked with the filthy terms and keywords that were used to  browse through my blog. the last days of feb and beginning of march were notorious.
as jude of spirit cloth  recently commented :
"it might be nice to know what you are being associated with."

all's not lost as there are ways to curb it. you can find more about it here

and folks this is real time snow in barcelona march 8 at 2:30pm. i can hear you snowbirds cracking up. but this is the med!!!
it's not stopping so will go out and video it. more later.

Addendum: just be very careful as there are massive hijack attacks on blogs going on.
do not install any gadgets for the time being , as some contain malware codes.
there's a writeup here form one of the regular helpers in the blogger help forums

caution everyone!!

perspective

It seems that something's going on in blogger land. This morning as i was reading one of my blog subscriptions i came across this.
Paranoid me went to her dashboard and could not sign in beceause Blogger had detected suspicious activity ie. spam coming from my blog. Apparently there is a new wave of hijacked blogs that are being used as  splogs .
Pretty freaky when you see the yellow warning and  are denied access to your blog.
i could neither  sign in to my Google account. Luckily i was given the option there to change passwords and it seemed to solve the issue  as you are reading this.
Furthering prophylactic measures i have enabled comment moderation.

Life happens in the most unexpected ways.
Please protect yourselves by changing your settings and  password and scan your computer for trojans.
For further information you can go to the Blogger help forum .

i'll make do with what i have-said she

But i'm such a sucker for beautiful yarns and threads that i could not resist these.
So i ordered them from Dollmaker through my friend Holly and they were waiting for me at my mom's when i got there. While there i must confess that i also picked up some glittery threads at Wallmart, where i avoid shopping, but i said to myself, just for once what the heck. Hope the breach of principles does not get me bad karma.
Now i have to make up for the missed TAST week stitches.
i'm thinking about cheating and rolling all of them into one single piece so that i can rehook to the pace in one week. We shall see.
Moving on to blogging. Came back to find Blogger sort of embeded (pun) into Picassa which means among other things that there's a space limit for one's picts. Then of course one can buy extra space. The end of free is here. Guess i'll have to get Flickr.

kindness on the web

Thanks to all who visited and left suggestions for my uploading woes.
Let's see how it works out today.
After so much stitching i had to get back to weaving and it is going along well, albeit having spent a small sum on hairspray to control the sticky warp from Hades.
Needed some recreation so i visitedJudy's blog where she has a thought provoking post -Reading Linda Nochlin -about women and the arts.
Also stopped by SharonB's Mindtracks blog which i found very informative. Having come across the video last Tuesday it was interesting to find out the source.
Her post about knowing your blogging audience also gave me some things to think about. Will have to think and phrase the questions i came up with.

About today's image. It's a composite of a fractal image on the background a tesselation forming a textile pattern and an image i found on a Japanese website. And a lot of Photoshop.
All fun and games chilling out a bit in front of the computer.

migrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pink warrior

With no one holding my hand i completed the infamous blog migration. It went just as described by the blogger schpeel, so cannot complain here. True my blog is small and it does not have a lot of windings. But i must confess i was holding my breath for the whole 7 minutes the process took.
Haven't started adding widgets or anything, too much excitement in one day, but eventually i'll start playing. And problems will arise-Murphy's Law again.
Had enough at Nihongo today, te kudasai verb endings. It's cramming, something i'm not proficient at.
Ok better cut this short , test your connection now sign is flashing pink an i want to post. Same problems in a different wrapper?
Oh and the cool pink ninja avatar was a courtesy of Avimator
