Change -a project

before and after2
from this to this

i keep following this month's TIF concept with a twist.
Need a display case for your ATCs? Well, now you know what to do with a wooden wine crate! Buy cheap acrylic paint because you don't want perfect coverage. Thin it even more with water and paint carelessly, giving it a distressed look that goes well with the rough, knotty veiny wood.
Let it dry and that's it! Display your ATCs.
The bonus is that you need to drink all that vino :)

more ATCs

ATC#4

The latest ATCs.i guess you can call this a series as there are already 6 and presumably more to come :)

ATC#5

On the home front still SNAFU. AND i bombed on Japanese test. The final will be in two weeks and i'm contemplating not taking it and calling it quits. There's only so much that one can handle. At least i am able to do a little work in the studio now.

trading post

atc1 up for trade

i've been making ATCs for trade lately just to help me get back in the swing of things. It's taken me a while to get back after the flu.
These are the first three of a series of 10. If you're interested in trading leave me a note.

atc-2 up for trade

i'm recycling some thick loosely spun yarns that i've had for years but could not bear to discard because of the you never know syndrome. And it seems that i finally found a use for them.
atc3 up for trade

i'm also having fun adding other materials and beads and sequins. Not only is this a stash reduction phase, but also a beads and sequins phase.

postal blues

annica's-pc

Annica from Fab Threads and i exchanged ATCs some weeks ago. Her card arrived like an e-mail,almost instantly. Not mine. Mine got tangled up in postal digressions. It got so tangled up that i started calling the postman all kinds of names and Annica, being more civilised than i was keeping her fingers crossed. After 2 weeks of no show we both agreed to make rag dolls with postman's hats and stab them with pins.
i decided to send her a second ATC and while it was on the way the first one finally arrived. So i got these beauties in return.annica's card
The fabric postcard came with a bonus pretty paper card with a yarn tail.
After all the name calling i have to be grateful to the postman.
A word of warning to people i'm trading with: it's not me,it's the postman.

bitting the dust and chewing it

#3 for trade

It has always sadden me when i read of weavers who passed away and their estates, looms, stashes, samples, in a good scenario, end up at a garage sale with unappreciative people.
Its not that i'm going to die, well, eventually everyone does, but i've had this concern about my woven samples. And while i came up with something to do with them they were ever so often dutifully shifted around from place to place within my studio. Until very recently.

i started using some of the fabric samples as backgrounds for the TAST
embroidery samples. Yes, more samples! Though sometimes the fabric was not suitable for embroidering on and it had to go back to the sample box.

This Sunday the lights finally went on. Why not use them for ATCs?
So i brought out a hand needle felting device i had bought, my brand new heat gun and all the thrums that i could find. i had sworn that i wasn't going to jump into the needle felting bandwagon unless it added something to my work. Same resistance that i had towards weaving with chenille when it became le dernier cri and everyone was doing it.

Nonetheless i had a flawless alibi in that i was recycling everything and not buying more stuff. i even recycled some of the chunky yarns i had from my tapestry weaving days, i'm talking second day of creation here.
#4 for trade As a result these are the first ATCs of the season and they are up for trading. A compendium of materials and techniques in an effort to slim down. The lutradur is courtesy of Annica of Fab Threads and the final push is due to Purple Missus

#4 for trade

The stone gray background fabric is a woven sample of a networked twill woven in silk in all its defective glory, the gingham is commercial fabric and so is the ric-rac.

colorful postman

The postman came today with a colorful surprise delivery. Gunnel sent me this beautiful ATC so now i know what the acronym stands for. i'm part of the in crowd! The photo doesn't make justice, it has a wonderfully rich surface texture and nteresting colors. Thank you Gunnel!

And while on the color topic, this has been around in the dyers community for a while now.I't a great color mixing java applet that works with the standard ProcionMX dyes as well as the Munsell scale and a lot of other goodies. It was a very gracious gift from Olli Niemitalo to the dyers community some years back. Scroll down and read the lit. because it's very comprehensive.

You can tweak with the kind of lighting to get an accurate on screen color rendering.
But that's not all.The real beauty is that by following the percentages you can duplicate the color recipe on and on and on.
O.k. now you just have to control the water quality supply now...
