TIF -where did this month go?

shadow weave

i intended working with this month's concepts, as they were very appealing. But suddenly it's the end of the month and i haven't thought or written anything coherent. The heat and the indigo vats must have really affected me :)
And as i'm doing pretty well in this TIF challenge i don't want to lag behind. The option thus, is the colorway.

i developed this shadow weave from a profile i designed and which i'm unable to locate now.
It's a simple 12 shaft parallel threading. There are a few 3 end floats, but these are design elements. Honestly!

Here are cloth views of different color combos from this month's colorway.
The work was done using Fiberworks PCW, my regular weaving design software. The draft is open source and open to further interpretations. In other words be my guest and enjoy!

aizome show and tell

composite
Some of the work. As the vats are quite healthy i'm getting hold of everything i find and blueing it over :). i'm especially happy with the rust and indigo sibori cottons. More of those to come.
And the wool yarn is not bad either.

i don't care if monday's blue,
tuesday's grey and wednesday too..
i'm in love...

spacing out and playing with sand

sand play
thisandthat.com

Won't be a bore. It will suffice to say i was able to recover the indigo vat. Now i have 2 vats going!!!

Changing gears and shifting to much needed R and R found a play page.Good for design ideas too. Click on the small square on the top right.
i love the soothing sound of shifting sand!
Thanks to Hobby Princess for the link.

double weave

fabric scan2

This is the fabric i posted about here for my Jackie dress.
My hand trembled while cutting it as the pattern was created with a pattern design program and i don't have time for styling or fine tuning right now. So it was cut using the pattern straight from the printer.
Weavers may enjoy looking at the closeup and they can even re create the draft :)
The fabric was scanned at 1200ppi. Thank you Alice for the tip!
And no, i did not weave it.

On to dyeing. The vat is still going with a bit of daily sharpening. As ever have lost count of the dips, but the woven shibori looks as if it's going places. i'm having a hard time refraining myself from opening the itajime.

aizome-the return

the vat

This year setting the vat was a breeze. Practice makes perfect? Only 10 summers.
As the vat now knows who's in command i'm contemplating running a sukumo vat when i come back from my holidays. i located Indigo from seed to dye by Dorothy Miller which gives pretty good instructions on handling sukumo.
(Look at those little toesies :- D )

Here 's the day's work. yarns
The light blue rope is a woven shibori shawl on it's second dip. The yarns were dipped many times last year. This year i continue dipping aiming for very dark indigo blue.

And this is my contraption for doing itajime

this baby is finished

this baby is finished

Took me two weeks, but it's done. Why did i do it? Because i got hung up on a nobody does it better scenario. The corridor is about 5 sq. meters, but it proved huge in practice.
Now i know i can do it.
The color is what we call museum red, a tad lighter than the Knossos Palace red.
i can get on with life. With some champagne celebration :)
For an artsy take go here and have a look.
