Cold wave. Meanwhile, back at the tropics...

It's been very cold for the past three days. The north wind is blowing merciless soI had to bring my lemon grass and frangipanies inside.
My sudio, however, is warming up with activity tropicalia series is going well. Its theme is "saudade"- nostalgia of the tropics which in turn is a revision of childhood landscapes, both literal and figuratively speaking.

I've also finished some pieces for the show in Hungary. I am quite pleased with the outcome since they incorporate weaving, stitchery and digital printing. Too bad I can't post these as the rules do not allow the work to be shown prior to be submitted.

Weekend in Bilbao

Spent a 4 day weekend in Bilbao. The Richard Serra exhibit at the Guggenheim makes your soul sing and I'm not talking music here. Walking through those massive cor-ten sculptures you experience all kinds of feelings.
There was another good exhibit at the Art Museum on British Pop art.

And the food, lordy, lordy those people really know how to eat.
Anywhere you go the food is exellent and there are literally hundreds of great tapas bars.
Had baby squid stewed in their ink, clams in wine sauce, codfish in a variety of ways, and assorted shellfish. And always jamon(cured ham) and excellent wine.
At a restaurant had a parfait of red kidney bean and leek froth that was unusual as well as delicious. Not to mention the spoonfuls of minced marinated vegetables. Ahh!!

Came back fully nourished, both mentally and bodily.
Have losts of ideas for weavings.

much needed rain

I'ts been raining for over a week now and it was much needed. However I'm already sick of it.
Dyed some yarn and it is taking its time to dry out.
Awful weather for baking bread . I just want to sit around and wait til it stops.

Struggling with Hiragana

I'm doing pretty well with the speaking part in Japanese, speaking has never been a problem for me. But writing hiragana is another story. One has to be very careful because if the small wiggle is too long, too short or left out it is something else and means something different.
Our teacher is also very meticulous so that makes it even harder.
this is a real test for my mild dyslexia.
